The Ragdoll breed was started in California in the 1960's by Ann Baker by breeding a white Persian type female named Josephine and a Birman type male named Daddy Warbucks. The name Ragdoll comes from the cat's tendency to go limp or flop like a rag doll in your arms when being held.
The ideal Ragdoll cat is well balanced and is generally large with a long, firm muscular body. Altered males can reach 20 pounds or more. Ragdolls are most specifically known for their loving natures and laid back personalities. Full size and weight are not reached until the cat reaches three to four years.
Although Ragdoll cats are long-haired, their rabbit like fur is much easier to care for than many typical long-hair breeds since their coats seldom mat and they shed much less than other breeds.
The laid-back, docile demeanor and social nature of the Ragdoll cat makes them the perfect companion for nearly anyone. The Ragdoll cat is a very sweet and loving cat and loves people. I feel that life isn't complete until you have been loved by a Ragdoll. Ragdoll cats and kittens are very trusting and gentle, therefore they must be keep indoors. Ragdoll cats tend to be larger than most cats and the average adult male is approximately 15 pounds.
The Ragdoll kitten has blue eyes and is born white. As the Ragdoll cat grows their color will develop. There are several color patterns to choose from, for complete list of colors, please visit our Ragdoll Colors page.
Our main focus is on health, size and most importantly a sweet personality. Our cattery is registered with TICA (The International Cat Association) and CFA (Cat Fanciers Association). My cattery is clean, small and part of my home. Each kitten I produce is hand raised and comes complete with a written health guarantee. Because the Ragdoll Cat is a slow maturing cat, I do not let my kittens go until they are ready to do so which is approximately 12 weeks old. Visitors are welcome to my cattery by appointment only. I ship our Ragdoll kittens anywhere within the continental United States and in some cases, I will hand carry the kitten to you. I feel the Ragdoll cat is the perfect companion, for availability please visit our Available page or contact me directly.
